7 Signs You Need Brake Repair
The short answer
You need brake repair if you hear squealing or grinding, feel vibration or a soft pedal, the car pulls when braking, a brake warning light is on, or stopping distances are getting longer.
Jump to

1. Squealing or squeaking
Most brake pads have a small metal wear indicator that squeals when pads get thin. It's your early warning — schedule service soon.
2. Grinding noise
Grinding means the pad material is gone and metal is contacting the rotor. Stop driving as soon as practical; every mile adds damage and cost.
3. Vibration or pulsing pedal
Warped or unevenly worn rotors cause a pulsing pedal or steering wheel shake when braking, especially at highway speeds on I-35 or MoPac.
4. Car pulls to one side
A stuck caliper or collapsed brake hose can make the car pull when braking. This is a safety issue that needs immediate attention.
5. Soft or spongy pedal
Air or moisture in the brake fluid, or a leak, reduces braking force. Brake fluid should be flushed every 2–3 years.
6. Brake or ABS warning light
A red brake light can mean low fluid or a hydraulic problem. An amber ABS light points to a sensor or module issue.
7. Longer stopping distances
If you're pressing harder or stopping later than you used to, have your brakes inspected. Our brake inspections are always free.
